Preliminary Task

We were instructed to to have a one-to-one interview wich required a door being opened and closed, also were expected to have used 3 particular rules.

180 Degree Rule

This is when two actors facing one another in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. For example if A is facing left and B is facing right then over head shot this should stay the same and not cross the 180 degree line.

Match on Action

A match on action, a technique used in film editing, is a cut that connects two different views of the same action at the same moment in the movement. By carefully matching the movement across the two shots, filmmakers make it seem that the motion continues uninterrupted. For example in shot1 you film the man walking from the fron as a long shot, ten in shot 2 you would film them walking from behind.

Shot reverse Shot

The camera frames each speaker (usually 2-4) in medium close-up as he or she recites a line of dialogue. The shoulder or profile of the listener can often be seen, slightly out of focus on the edge of the frame, while the camera is focused on the face of the speaker.

What is Continuity Editing?

Continuity editing refers to arranging the sequence of shots to suggest a progression of events in a logical way. You can’t put the camcorder anywhere, edit randomly chosen shots together, and expect the result to make sense. You have to make sure that the continuity is maintained each time an edit is made. :S
For example, in shot 1, the actor picks up the phone with his right hand, then it is expected that the phone is still in his right hand in shot 2! ;)
